In this class, we worked as a class to help a local, non-profit organization in Boulder redesign for a new space. This company, Community Cycles, is planning on moving into a new building next year that is almost three times larger than their current space. This research methods class explored various types of research to help determine the problems of the current space and how to address them in the new space. Although work was done as a class, smaller groups of four focused on specific user groups through the semester. Then, within those group, individual reports were created from each person for each type of research, and then one person would create a final document to report on each research type. Our group focused on the “general public” and each did an individual report on Precedent Research, a Site Visit, Observations, an Interview, and a Focus Group. I additionally did the Compiled Observations Report. This report took observation data from the entire class on members of the general public and combined it into one analyzed document. At the end of the semester, as a small group, we created posters to reflect the design proposal we created for Community Cycles.
